HISTORY
Around the year 1900, growing industrialisation led to the foundation of large and small public health insurance companies throughout Switzerland. The canton of Grisons, where the ÖKK we know today originated, followed the trend.
Almost 40 independent regional companies had been operating in increasingly cramped quarters in the canton of Grisons since the Second World War. In 1994, they decided to create the ÖKK foundation. In 2004, ÖKK Winterthur was added. All other national and regional ÖKKs go by another name or no longer exist at this time.
Today’s ÖKK is a modern insurance company based in Landquart and active throughout Switzerland. ÖKK came into its own in Grisons and has a local high market share. ÖKK has also experienced strong growth outside Grisons, however – by now, over 40% of customers are from other regions – and this trend is continuing.
