HMO stands for Health Maintenance Organisation. The HMO model is available in many, but not all regions of Switzerland. Find an HMO centre in your area here. With the HMO model, your doctor from the doctors’ network or group practice is your first point of contact. If you require treatment from a specialist, you will be referred immediately. If you consult a doctor, therapist or hospital without a referral from your HMO centre or HMO doctor, you are responsible for the costs incurred yourself. Exceptions include emergencies as well as gynaecological, paediatric and optometric treatments.
