Are you taking out a new contract with ÖKK? Or changing your supplementary insurance? Here you can find all the information you need to easily take out, change or terminate your health insurance.
Concluding a contract
What do I have to do to conclude an insurance contract?
Would you like to take out insurance with ÖKK? You can easily change your health insurance in just a few steps.
Whether in a personal consultation or using our virtual assistant in the premium calculator, we will help you put together an insurance solution tailored to your life situation. We offer a wide range of basic and supplementary insurance policies.
You can use the ÖKK premium calculator to quickly and easily calculate your personal premium and get a quote.
You can conclude the required insurance policies by post, e-mail or directly online. When concluding supplementary insurance policies, you have to answer certain questions about your state of health (health declaration). You will then receive a definitive confirmation of acceptance by e-mail or post.
We will happily terminate your previous health insurance on your behalf. Send us the completed termination form by no later than two weeks before the end of the notice period to privateclients@oekk.ch or
ÖKK
Bahnhofstrasse 13
P.O. Box

IMPORTANT: Please note the notice periods for your current health insurance and do not terminate your current insurance, in particular your supplementary policies, until you have received a confirmation of acceptance from us. You will receive a pre-printed termination form from us.
Health declaration and policy
As soon as your previous insurer confirms the termination of your basic insurance, we will send you the policy.
If you are taking out one or more supplementary insurance policies, your health declaration will be checked in due course. This comprises a questionnaire with various questions on your state of health and is part of all supplementary insurance applications. Based on the health declaration, the insurer assesses the risk they are taking on if they accept somebody into a certain supplementary insurance policy. If it transpires that a person is in poor health, the insurer may turn down their application or, if they have a pre-existing condition, exclude this from the policy. You will then receive the policy after a decision has been made as to whether you have been accepted.
Changing insurance
When and how can I change my health insurance?
If you want to switch to ÖKK, the same applies as for when you are concluding an insurance contract.
It is usually the case that newly concluded basic insurance policies are valid as of the start of a calendar year. With a deductible of CHF 300 (CHF 0 for children), it is possible to change your basic insurance as of the middle of a year. In this case, the new health insurance is valid from 1 July. Newly concluded supplementary insurance policies are always valid as of the start of a calendar year.
You should submit insurance applications at an early stage. This means you will receive your confirmation of acceptance early enough to terminate your existing health insurance.
If you wish to switch from ÖKK to another provider, the notice periods listed below apply. To change your policy, please contact the agency responsible for you.
Termination
When and how can I terminate my health insurance?
If you wish to change or terminate your basic or supplementary insurance provider, you have to comply with the relevant notice periods. The overview below shows which dates are relevant for you:
Basic insurance notice periods
Termination date | Notice period general | Notice period when premium is announced in autumn | |
---|---|---|---|
with standard deductible* | as of 30 June or 31 December | as of 31 March or 30 September (3 months) | as of 30 November (1 month) |
with elective deductible or general practitioner model | as of 31 December | as of 30 September (3 months) | as of 30 November (1 month) |
* Deductible of CHF 300 / CHF 0 for children
The end of the insurance is based on the statutory provisions (KVG). Notices of termination are only valid when provided in writing and before the relevant deadlines. The key date in this regard is the date the insurer receives the notice of termination, not the date of the postmark. As such, we recommend sending it via registered mail.
Supplementary insurance notice periods
Supplementary insurance policies may be terminated as of 31 December. Notice of termination can be provided in writing or in another, digital form, e.g. e-mail. At ÖKK, a notice period of three months (as of 30 September) applies, even for multi-year contracts. The key date in this regard is the date ÖKK receives the notice of termination, not the date of the postmark.
In the event of a premium adjustment, the notice period is reduced to 30 days. Detailed information on notice periods and deadlines can be found in the insurance conditions.
Before terminating your current supplementary insurance policy, please wait until your new health insurer has confirmed in writing that it will accept you into your required supplementary insurance policy without reservation.
