The benefits you receive
The basic insurance covers medically required benefits in the event of illness, accident and maternity. These benefits are defined in the Swiss Health Insurance Act (KVG) and are the same at all health insurers in Switzerland.
Regardless of which basic insurance model you opt for, the benefits remain identical. The difference between the models is only in the choice of your first point of contact for medical questions.
ÖKK pays the statutory benefits for you after deducting your deductible and excess and the hospital cost contribution.
How it works
In the event of illness
- Contact the specialist doctors at Medgate (by phone or via the app) around the clock or look for an ÖKK partner-pharmacy.
- If necessary, Medgate or the partner pharmacy will refer you to a specialist or hospital.
- Exceptions: for paediatric, gynaecological, dental and ophthalmological treatment, you may consult a specialist directly without having to first contact Medgate or a partner pharmacy.
- You must always have your ÖKK insurance card to hand.
- Submit your doctor’s bills and claim documentation to ÖKK.
In an emergency
- In case of emergency, you do not have to get in touch with your first point of contact. You can contact your nearest hospital or emergency doctor directly.
- Notify Medgate or your partner pharmacy within twenty days after the emergency and discuss the next steps together.
- If these steps are taken, ÖKK will cover the costs of the emergency medical treatment.

You can have your symptoms assessed by a specialist at an ÖKK partner pharmacy. The pharmacist will provide an initial consultation and then discuss the next steps for your treatment with you.
Download the Telmed app from the App Store or Google Play. Then you will have a medical specialist with you at all times, no matter where you are. In the event of medical issues, you simply have to enter your symptoms in the app. You will then receive a recommendation for whether to get treatment from Medgate doctors or go to a doctor’s practice. Full instructions are provided here.
Yes, Medgate can issue medical certificates. The Medgate doctor will evaluate your symptoms during a telephone or video consultation. Afterwards, Medgate will certify your inability to work if necessary. Please note that Medgate generally cannot issue retroactive certificates.
It is entirely up to you. You can choose who to contact first about your medical issues.
If you are already insured in a model with a restricted choice of doctor, you can switch to a different insurance model with effect from 1 January of the following year. To do so, simply request a non-binding quote from us.
