When is it worth taking out ÖKK PARENTS?

ÖKK PARENTS supplements your basic insurance during the times when you need security, peace and quiet and support, both before and after the birth. You benefit from contributions towards antenatal courses, family rooms, a nursing allowance and support with day-to-day life. This leaves more time for the things that count – for you and your child. ÖKK PARENTS is available to all families and can only be taken out as an add-on to ÖKK START. Please note that there is a waiting period of 360 days after conclusion of the contract for certain benefits.

Questions and answers (FAQ)

Whether you are trying for a baby or already pregnant, becoming a parent is a time of great joy, but there are also some uncertainties. This makes it all the more important to start thinking about insurance at an early stage. Basic insurance already covers some benefits related to pregnancy and parenthood. ÖKK PARENTS supplements these with useful additional benefits and helps you to close any gaps in your cover if taken out in good time. Please note that a waiting period applies after you take out the policy. Benefits are only paid once this period has expired.

Basic insurance is compulsory for all people residing in Switzerland, even for babies. Expectant parents are advised to register their child with a health insurer before the birth. Basic insurance is compulsory, and registration must be carried out no later than three months after the birth. Different rules apply with respect to supplementary insurance: if you only take it out after the birth, your baby’s state of health will be checked. This can be time-consuming and there is a risk that your baby will be rejected. With some supplementary insurance policies, acceptance is guaranteed if the baby is registered before the birth.

Prenatal examinations, such as nuchal scans during the first trimester check-up, can provide information about the health of your unborn child. During the pregnancy, basic insurance generally covers the costs of seven routine check-ups (with no deductible or excess), of which two are ultrasound scans.
