Emergency

  • In case of emergency in the EU, you can contact your nearest hospital or emergency doctor.

Questions and answers (FAQ)

Within the EU/EFTA, the insurance obligation is based on the place in which you work or receive a pension, rather than on your place of residence. Cross-border workers in Switzerland are therefore required by law to take out insurance in Switzerland.

Family members not in gainful employment who live in the EU/EFTA must also be insured in Switzerland. The family members must apply to take out the insurance themselves in writing using a form. Premiums are calculated and invoiced per family member. Family members who work or receive a pension in their country of residence must take out insurance there.

You have the right to choose whether to get treatment in Switzerland or your country of residence. For treatment in Switzerland, you must always present the ÖKK insurance card to the service providers. You can submit doctor’s bills and claim documentation directly to ÖKK.

When you take out basic insurance for cross-border workers, we send the relevant European forms to the liaison office in your country of residence. You are then registered with this office and can submit your doctor’s bills directly to it for assessment and processing.

Cost contributions are determined by the statutory provisions in your country of residence.

The following cost contributions apply for treatments in Switzerland:

First, you pay the standard deductible (CHF 300 for adults / CHF 0 for children) yourself. After that, the insurance covers 90% of the additional costs; you have to pay the remaining 10% (known as the excess).

There is an annual limit on the excess: adults pay a maximum of CHF 750, and children a maximum of CHF 350 per year. A hospital cost contribution is charged for hospital stays on a general ward.
